Your View: Subscriptions –

by Johan Tobias

It has been a very long time since we published a your view type article. These were typically questions of a controversial nature designed to get the comments flowing and community growing.

Today, however, I am publishing a different type of Your View. Due to recent changes in the online advertising market (and more changes that are due to arrive before too long) it is getting more difficult to maintain high traffic sites from advertising revenue alone.

Many large sites are shutting down due to loss of ad revenue. While we are not at risk of doing so ourselves, we are mindful of a future web without advertising funds.

One way to handle this issue is with a subscription model. The type of model we are considering for Listverse is one in which we will continue to publish two lists a day with open access to all, but an additional third list a day available only to subscribers (and/or perhaps a per-list pay-per-view type scenario for those who don’t want a recurring subscription but may want to read an extra list occasionally).

Here’s where you come in. In the comments below please answer the following questions:

1. Would you pay for a monthly subscription to one extra list on Listverse every day?

2. How much would you pay for such a subscription? $5? $10? $20? More? Less?

3. If you wouldn’t buy a monthly subscription, would you use a pay-per-view option wherein you pay a small fee for access to one article only?

4. If you support a pay-per-view option, how much would you pay per list? $1? $3? $5?

Subscriptions would also remove advertising from the site.

In addition to the above we would consider a significant monthly prize draw for all subscribers and would definitely consider other perks you may suggest.
